What's the difference between a T5 and a T8 linear fluorescent lamp? The "T" number on fluorescent tubes refers to the diameter of the tube. The measurement is expressed in eighths of an inch. So a T8 tube is 8/8 or 1 inch in diameter and the T5 is 5/8 inches in diameter.
